TL;DR

Want to close more deals, get a promotion, influence your team, or just finally get your kid to clean their room? Start selling like a pro. Whether you realize it or not, you’re always selling, and these three mindset shifts will change everything. 1. Take full responsibility for the outcome, 2. Convince yourself first, and 3. Lead with value, positivity, and responsiveness. Master these, and your entire sales strategy (and life) levels up.

EVERYONE IS IN SALES

You don’t need a quota or a CRM to be in sales.

If you’ve ever tried to negotiate a raise, win over a hiring manager, convince your partner to take that vacation, or persuade your kid to clean their room, you’re in sales.

If you’re leading a team, you’re selling your vision.

If you’re pitching a project, you’re selling a point of view.

If you’re building a business, you’re selling…period.

So let’s get real about what actually works. These three principles aren’t hacks or scripts; they’re mindset shifts that will transform your go-to-market (GTM) strategy, your influence, and your life.

3 TIPS TO TRANSFORM HOW YOU SELL

1. It’s Not the Customer. It’s You.

Yep, I said it. The only thing standing between you and the sale… is you.

It’s not the budget.

It’s not the timeline.

It’s not the competition.

It’s whether you showed up prepared, whether you understood the client, and whether you were listening or pitching. I know many of you reading this are going to choke on these words and disagree with every fiber of your being.

Ask yourself:

  • Did I really understand their pain points?

  • Did I ask powerful questions and listen to the answers?

  • Did I clearly articulate value, not just features?

  • Did I anticipate objections and practice overcoming them?

  • Did I follow up on time, with relevance?

  • Did I bring a good attitude and energy?

Sales is a value transfer, and if the transfer didn’t happen, it’s because something was missing from your side.

Take full ownership. Accountability is the gateway to unlocking your success. When you do this, everything gets easier.

Repeat after me: The only thing standing between you and the sale… is you.

2. Convince Yourself First

If you don’t believe in what you’re offering, why should anyone else?

The single fastest way to improve your value proposition is to ask: Would I buy this? Would I champion this if I didn’t work here?

If the answer is no, fix that first.

Buy it. Use it. Understand it. Know the nuance. Know the blind spots. Know the results. That’s how you become authentic. Trust me, buyers can sniff out BS faster than ever.

You can’t fake passion, belief, or clarity. When you're confident in your offer, you stop selling and start serving. Refer back to point #1 – you are in the business of “value transfer.”

3. Be the Easiest Person to Work With

Attitude is part of your value. Never forget that.

Here’s what being a high-value seller actually looks like:

  • You’re positive, but grounded.

  • You’re responsive (and I mean 24 hours or less, always).

  • You solve problems instead of creating friction.

  • You follow through on time, every time.

  • You proactively ask: “What else can I do for you?”

Let me give you an example. If a client says, “Your price is too high,” don’t argue.

Try this instead:

“You’re right, it’s not cheap. But you know what else is expensive? Shadow IT, compliance fines, and the hours your team loses trying to duct tape solutions never designed to scale.

My fee is nothing compared to what that cost.”

That’s value-based selling. Don’t argue with your customer. You aren’t here to pick a fight.

Also, check in. When was the last time you asked what’s working and what’s not? Turn every issue into an opportunity.

You’re not just selling a solution; you’re selling you. YOU are valuable! And when you’re great to work with, people come back.

BONUS TIP

End Every Call With This One Question: “What else can I do for you?”

Simple. Elegant. Powerful.

It keeps you in service mode. It opens doors. It makes the customer feel seen.(And it usually leads to more business.)
